Overview

The Planning and Development Department is responsible for the administration of zoning and subdivision regulations and permits, inland wetlands and environmental issues and permits, applications for development, land use regulations, and purchasing open space for preservation. The professional staff supports the Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission, and the Environment Commission.

Planning & Zoning Commission Application Deadlines

The Planning and Zoning Commission meets on the second and fourth Monday of each month at Cheshire Town Hall. Applications are due the Monday before or seven days before the meeting, with the exception of holidays and applications for August when the Commission does not meet. Applications are accepted at the first meeting and the Commission then sets future dates for application consideration. Please check with the Planning Department for the deadlines and meeting dates for your application.

Public Notice Registry

The Cheshire Planning and Zoning Commission has established a Public Notice registry pursuant to Public Act 06-80. Landowners and Electors of the Town of Cheshire as well as non-profit organizations may request to be placed on the Registry. Those placed on the Registry will receive advance notice by mail or email of Public Hearings associated with any proposed changes which are initiated by the Planning and Zoning Commission, to the Zoning or Subdivision Regulations, zoning designations, or Plan of Conservation and Development. The Public Notice Registry does not apply to applications submitted by the public. If you would like to be added to the Public Notice registry, please submit a Request Form for Inclusion (PDF).
