Town Clerk
Overview
The Town Clerk's Office is responsible for recording, maintaining, and preserving land records, maps, vital statistics, and other municipal records, including meeting minutes of all official boards, commissions, and committees, for access by the public. The Town Clerk's Office is also responsible for:
- Absentee ballots and applications
- Burial and cremation permits
- Certified copies of Land Records and Maps
- Certified copies of vital records (online ordering now available)
- Copies of recorded military discharge papers (or, submit an online request to the National Archives for a certified copy of a DD214)
- Copies of Zoning Regulations Books and Maps
- Dog Licenses
- Liquor Permit -Effective Oct. 1, 2025, liquor permits will no longer be filed with the Town Clerk. Please see the Dept. of Consumer Protection's eLicense website.
- Marriage Licenses - appointment required
- Notary Public Services for acceptable documents only
- Notice of Application for a Cigarette Dealer Retailer License
- Registration of Property Being Foreclosed $60
- Trade Name filing fee $20
The office accepts cash or checks payable to "Cheshire Town Clerk." Credit cards are also accepted. There is a 2.5% processing fee (minimum $2) for credit card usage.
