OverviewRed Trail at the DeDominicis property

The Town of Cheshire has over 1,500 acres of publicly purchased open space land, set aside for passive recreation uses, such as hiking. Cheshire was a pioneer in the acquisition of open space, identifying areas of interest in the 1980s and setting aside money to purchase land through the passage of referendums. Currently, the Town of Cheshire is the largest open space land owner in the town. In conjunction with the Meriden Water Company (1,307 acres), Private Land Owners (810 acres), Cheshire Land Trust (578 acres), State of Connecticut (323 acres), the Regional Water Authority (146 acres), and the Quinnipiac Valley Audubon (25 acres), approximately 4,700 acres of land is held as open space, equal to approximately 22% of land in Cheshire. The use of these open space properties is governed by the Town's Open Space Ordinance, and the management plans adopted for each property. The management plans are arranged by property name, arranged given.
