Cheshire Residents,
We want to alert you to a recent scam targeting individuals by impersonating various Town employees and committee members.
What’s happening:
We’ve been made aware of fraudulent messages (via email) going out to applicants requiring additional application fees for an application to be approved. So far, we are aware of emails impersonating Planning and Zoning staff as well as members of the Beautification Committee. The Beautification Committee impersonator used "planning.cheshire@mail.com" to send scam messages (read more below on how to identify a real Town of Cheshire email address).

What you should know:
- We never ask for additional payments through wire transfer. Fees for any applications are discussed in person with the applicant.
- All email communications will come from our verified channels, such as https://ct-cheshire.civicplus.com/, from OpenGov.com, or an email domain ending in @cheshirect.gov
- If you receive any suspicious communication, do not click on any links or provide any information.
What to do if you're contacted:
- Do not respond.
- Take a screenshot or copy the message.
- Report it to us immediately at 203-271-6670.
We take your security seriously and are actively working to shut down these scams. Please remain vigilant and contact us if you have any concerns.
