News Posted on October 31, 2025 | Last Updated on October 31, 2025

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM CHESHIRE HUMAN SERVICES REGARDING THE DISRUPTION IN SNAP BENEFITS:

Due to the federal government shutdown, as of November 1, 2025, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits will not be disbursed.

The Cheshire Human Services Department, Cheshire Food Drive, Inc. and the Cheshire Community Food Pantry, Inc. are working together to increase the level of assistance provided until the shutdown ends as many of the families we collectively serve, and others, will be impacted by this disruption. Below is a list of local resources should you need assistance or wish to donate to these community programs:

The Cheshire Human Services Department distributes the Food Vouchers provided by Cheshire Food Drive, Inc., qualifies people to utilize the Cheshire Community Food Pantry, Inc. and the Senior Center hosts a Senior Nutrition Program for qualified seniors. The Human Services Department also distributes grocery store gift cards to qualified individuals to be distributed as a supplement to the Food Voucher Program and the Food Pantry. You can reach the Human Services Department at (203) 271-6690 between 8:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. or by email at cheshirehumanservices@cheshirect.gov. The Cheshire Community Food Pantry, Inc. is a community organization that provides food in situations for all eligible individuals and families in need, regardless of their race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, or disability. Free-will donations come from the general Cheshire community.

They accomplish equitable distribution through the generous giving of time and labor by an organized team of compassionate volunteers. For more information on how to donate and to access the Pantry’s “Current Needs List” for food donations, go to www.cheshirefoodpantry.org.
