Free Disposal of Hazardous Items

Hazwaste Central (90 Sargent Dr., New Haven) accepts residential hazardous materials such as aerosols, cleaning or lawn or pool or photography chemicals, car batteries, car fluids, paint thinner, fluorescent bulbs, 1# propane tanks, items containing mercury, dry cleaning solvent, and rat poison.

There is no fee for Cheshire residents to dispose of items at HazWaste, but proof of residency is required.

Disposal of Dead Wildlife

The CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection maintains a list of contractors that will dispose of dead wildlife on residential property. The list begins on page 3 of the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Website.

Note: Fire Extinguishers are not accepted in regular trash collection or by local hardware stores, the Cheshire Fire Department, Hazwaste, or the local transfer station.
